The best Zip Fly ever?

I haven’t got a decent photo of the whole pair of jeans, much less one of me actually wearing them, but I’m so proud of the fly on this pair that I have to share photos of it, at least!

You’ll see the reason for the red belt loops in the next photo:

This is stretch denim, with a red reverse side. I couldn’t resist it when I saw it, especially at $2.500 a metre in Independencia.

I also thought it would be fun to use the leftovers from my little red wagon shirt for the pocket bags.

This is the 4th time I have used this pattern, and each time I get the fit a little closer to perfect. I’m happy with these, but given that the denim stretches, I wish I had made them a little neater.

The pattern is a Today’s Fit by Sandra Betzina, Vogue 7608, size G, modified.  I used the zip instructions from Kwik Sew. I love this zip, look at the big meaty fly shield, for one thing.

I’ve just bought a new jeans pattern, the Jalie Mid-rise Jeans, and I’m trying to decide if it will be worth the money to sign up for the “Blue Prints to Blue Jeans” class on Pattern Review. I don’t know. It’s a fair amount of cash, but what else do I have to do with myself for the rest of the year?!

  1. I haven’t tried SB’s jeans pattern, but I LOVE the Jalie. I don’t use the mid-rise as I’m older than you and also my mid is too big for that. Jalie’s is such a good fit I can barely believe it. I always use stretch denim but have never seen any with a red reverse — terrific looking and that fly is indeed awesome. I like to check out the high priced jeans via internet to see details.
